TOM VAN RENEN (2000) is a collagist based in Arnhem. He reuses photographs and other materials and turns them into unique creations that juxtapose, contrast, and create unique perspectives. Besides collage, he writes poetry and paints, finding inspiration within different artforms that he hasn't fully mastered yet.
"I was born on world animal day and raised on a farm without cattle. Right along with being overattentive in calculating, I want to be jolted as much as is available, through which I've come to learn that suprise might be manifestable, even though it's contradictory to how I perceive elements of suddenness. At times it seems possible to be hit by the curve of the ball which you yourself have thrown. When it comes to balls on a field, some will wack you down, others go unnoticed. Collage is a ball that hits in a morphing manner; it can be light as a paper, or heavy as a library. For the calculated, not usually spontaneous ones, like myself, collaging can be unchaining, and a wonderful practice to be suprised."
